The time of applying to colleges has come for 2025-2026 seniors. The Ohio State University and Miami University of Ohio are both logical options to consider.
For some background, The Ohio State (OSU) was founded in the 1870s and It is located in Columbus, Ohio. OSU is an academically gifted college that has consistently demonstrated its growth throughout years. The information session that the college provided was truly helpful in gaining knowledge and resources before applying to the school; however, not every person has the ability and time to attend these sessions and tour the campus, so that’s where my opinion takes place.
There was truly just one requirement that stuck out to me during the information session that could be negative to some students. OSU is mandating standardized testing scores again. Unfortunately, for students who may not have a competitive score they are required to submit one. On a positive note, they are taking a super score. A super score is a composed score of the students highest math score and evidence based reading and writing score, allowing the students to achieve their highest potential score.
As for the campus tour, I think while I was on campus, I truly felt like I could see a big success there. The campus environment is really incomparable. The school spirit catches your attention quickly as you walk through campus. Seeing many students furthering their education with OSU by taking summer courses and continuing to be on campus is truly eye-opening because you get a visual that the students still enjoy being there even when they do not have to be and I think that stands out. A place that caught my attention along the self guided tour was the library.
The library had numerous floors filled with areas to study. It had such a beautiful layout and so much space to be studious. There were many students there doing work, yet there was a quiet and respectful manner throughout the entire library. It really was a neat area to see, especially considering many students dedicate their time doing homework and studying for their majors. Having a spacious and spacious and quiet environment to do so is appealing to me.
OSU dormitories were diverse yet all clean and fairly updated.Residents could reside in two different areas in two different areas: North Campus North and South Campus residential halls. These campuses are on opposing sides of the university but just as beneficial to house in. The housing and residence sizing were typical for traditional style with communal bathrooms. However, the tower dorms seem pretty crowded for a smaller space. Nevertheless, all of the on–campus housing seemed hygienic and safe.
The Ohio State University is a great college with much to offer. However, that does not diminish the special qualities that Miami University has.
Miami University of Ohio goes all the way back to 1809, predating Miami University of Florida. Predatingly known as a public ivy, it offers ivy league quality education with public school access and costs. This university is located in Oxford, Ohio and has a large historic architecture. This university offers a well managed academic environment. Miami provides a college tour and information session to explore the possibilities for students thinking about becoming a RedHawk.

During the college information session with Miami, the administration truly hooks you at the start with a Miami tote bag with any information that you would need on paper and a Miami UUniversity T-shirt. It was truly eye-opening, truly eye-opening to witness how much of a belonging you had immediately felt in the Miami University system. I found the presentation was well-organized with no significant negative remarks. I believe students would appreciate how they do not mandate standardizing testing scores so if you do a summit one, it would be a bonus, would only be beneficial not a requirement. I think this approach takes the pressure and stress off of testing.
In my opinion the campus was beautiful. Every aspect seemed well maintained and the landscaping and scenery were visually appealing. The majority of the buildings are red brick, which adds to the sense of comfort on campus. Even the parking garage on campus was even in good condition with its own brick building. It left me with a good sense of security and comfort in having my car there in the future. In addition to the campus, the dorms were spacious and updated. I genuinely felt that the dorms I toured were some of the best I have seen, in terms of cleanliness and modernized.
The area that captivated my attention is the uptown part of the university’s district. This is an open environment with lots of shops, eatery, greenery and open areas to walk and spend time. The town itself is truly special. In addition to Uptown, I really was fascinated with the student health center. For somebody aspiring to study medicine, it was neat to see where Pre-Med Pre-MedandN Nursing programs take place. The building was updated, new and most importantly clean.
One quality that really impressed me with Miami was hearing that all the buildings that require student ID to enter are actually Apple Pay. This is extremely convenient for students so that they do not have a physical copy of it that can easily be lost or damaged.
Between The Ohio State University and Miami University, these colleges offered a great experience even just touring. I can only imagine how beneficial it would be to attend. The student life at these colleges seems ecstatic. I am beyond pleased with my visits from these colleges.
