For seniors at Hudson, many of them are experiencing many first goodbyes. The girl’s soccer team just recently ended their season on a high note in all aspects. The seniors that are passing this team down were some of the best leaders you could ask for.
Making it to the District Championship was a moment that many of the seniors were proud of this past season. “This season was fantastic and I couldn’t have asked for a better senior season. Between an excellent record and winning the District Championship for the first time since 2010, I am more than happy with our results,” Alice Xu exclaims.
Leaving behind a team and putting the upcoming seniors in charge can be difficult to come to terms with. However, many of the current seniors have complete faith and trust in the current juniors to exceed even further. “I am really excited to see what the upcoming seniors will do and I am sure they will be great leaders,” Olivia Greenbum states. A little shout out to current junior Ella Choi, as a lot of the seniors believe that she can be a key component in leading the team to success next soccer season. “I am super excited to see what Ella Choi will accomplish because I know it will be great! She’s an amazing player and person, so I know she will lead them in a good direction,” Megan Katitus says. Xu also comments, “Each class that comes through is better and better. I know the upcoming seniors, particularly Ella Choi, will do a great job.”
Of course, even though the team will surely be in good hands with the new seniors, the current ones have a lot to miss. “Not playing alongside some of my best friends anymore is going to hurt quite a bit. There are so many memories and experiences we’ve had together, and it’s sad that we no longer have the opportunity to make more on the field,” Xu exclaims. Greenbaum and Katitus also share this feeling with Xu as they will miss the friends they’ve made through the Hudson Lady Explorers program over the past four years.
With each team, there are the special moments that will last a lifetime for many. “My Favorite thing about the soccer team is the bond between the underclassman and upperclassman. In other years, it was more separated between grades. I love the pasta dinners and the toilet papering for new varsity players’ houses as well,” Katitus shares. Xu relates to the overall bonding of the team. “I’ve seen the culture of the team completely change in these past couple of years. If I have played a part, even a small part in it, I will have done my job.” Some fun traditions that she loves are the matching ribbons and chants on the way home from away games. “There’s nothing else like it.”
It’s fair to say that the seniors of the 2022-2023 soccer season left an impressive mark. Throughout it all, they still remain as humble as ever. “I am proud of how positive the team environment this year was and how the seniors were able to lead by example,” Greenbaum says. Katitus agrees on the overall team achievement. “I am proud of each and every player for what they have accomplished with this program throughout the years.”
Xu ends with having complete confidence in the upcoming seniors without taking anything away from the current ones. “The underclassmen are remarkably talented, and they are going to go so far in the next couple of years. Keep an eye out for Hudson Girls Soccer!”
