Although the Hudson Boys Soccer team’s first fortnight was a bit of a struggle, they have picked up the pace and started dominating the fields for their third, fourth and fifth week of the fall season.
Throughout these past three weeks, Hudson has won four games against Twinsburg, Toledo Saint Francis, Wadsworth and Green. The only team that they have lost to was Medina.
Medina’s Varsity Boys Soccer team is currently undefeated (9-0 overall) so it was no surprise that it was going to be a tough match for Hudson. During this Sep. 2 home game, the final score was 0-3 Medina.
On Sep. 5, the Hudson Boys Soccer team played their second Suburban League game at Twinsburg. In years prior, Twinsburg’s Varsity Boys Soccer team had been a hard-fought match for Hudson. However, Hudson managed to take home the win this season. With 25’ left in the first half, junior Sam Robledo scored the first goal with an assist from sophomore Ian Katz. The Twinsburg Tigers scored 16 minutes after that, with 11’ left in the first half. With 26’ remaining in the second half, Katz brought the score up from 1-1 to 2-1. During the last six minutes of the game, junior Will Pollock received the ball from Katz and took a shot on goal. Pollock scored. The final score was 3-1 Hudson.
Not even four days after that game (Sep. 9), the Explorers traveled three hours away to play Toledo Saint Francis. Even though Hudson’s Varsity team had a game delay due to a flat tire on the Junior Varsity bus, this did not affect their performance in any way. Senior Aidan Lawrence had a three-goal hat trick this game. His first goal was assisted by junior Matthew Caputo with 10’ left in the first half. Lawrence’s second goal was assisted by Robledo with 19’ left and his third goal was scored with a total of nine minutes remaining in the game. Junior Sam Sockol also scored in the beginning of the second half (32’ left) and was assisted by Robledo. The final score was 4-0 Hudson.
During their Sep. 12 home game, Hudson was up against Wadsworth. This was Hudson’s third Suburban League game. Robledo and Katz had a lot of amazing highlights throughout the match. This included Robledo scoring a goal within two minutes of the first half and Katz’s beautiful assist to him. Another highlight included Katz scoring a goal from Robledo’s assist with 3’ left in the first half. About a minute later, sophomore William Hallis passed a ball right to Robledo. Robledo scored and the game was at 3-0. In the second half, junior Andrew Hensley assisted Katz’s second goal of the game (35’ left). With three minutes left of the match, Wadsworth snagged a goal into the net. The final score was 4-1 Hudson.
This past Saturday (Sep. 16), Hudson played another home game against Green. Throughout the course of the first half, none of Hudson’s players nor Green’s players scored a goal. However, this changed immediately in the second half. Robledo stood out once again by scoring two goals during this half. His first goal came from Katz assisting him at the 36’ mark and his second goal came from Hallis assisting him at the 32’ mark. With 24 minutes remaining in the game, Katz scored the third goal with senior Gavin Mertes assisting him. The final score was 3-0 Hudson.
As mentioned previously, Robledo and Katz have shown up and stood out in these five games.
Throughout the past three weeks, Robledo scored a total of five goals and had a total of three assists while Katz scored a total of four goals and had a total of four assists.
This coming Tuesday (Sep. 19), Hudson hosts their fourth Suburban League game against Brecksville-Broadview Heights (3-5-1 overall).
According to Steve Batko from Hudson Hub Times, Hudson won the league at 6-0 last fall season as Veteran head coach Steve Knapp was the Championship Coach of the Suburban League National Conference.
Currently, Hudson has won all three of their Suburban League games. These wins include Stow-Munroe Falls, Twinsburg and Wadsworth.
Other than the upcoming Brecksville-Broadview Heights game, the three other teams Hudson has to play for their Suburban League National Conference includes Nordonia (Macedonia), North Royalton and Solon.
“The league will be extremely competitive with every game being tough,” stated Knapp.
Hopefully, the boys can continue beyond just their four-game winning streak and beat Brecksville’s Varsity Boys Soccer team.
