Three current HHS students, Reno, Sophie, and Zola, are bound for greatness as they are crushing it in their respective sports. Reno, a junior and multi-sport athlete, is making his mark in the realm of football and track. Sophie, a current freshman, has already made her name known in the world of Rugby. Lastly, Zola, a current freshman, is dominating the dance scene with her pre-professional ballet training.
All three have been dedicating an immense amount of time to these sports, and evidently, their hard work has paid off. At the ripe age of 14, Sophie has already managed to score an invitation to the USA rugby international team. While Reno has been recorded as the second fastest 100m runner in Hudson’s History. Zola, with her extensive ballet training, has participated in numerous recitals, exams, and competitions, demonstrating her dedication to the art.
Each sibling’s athletic journey is unique. Sophie was inspired by her time playing tackle football and has since transitioned into playing rugby for the past three years. Reno initially got into football and track for fun, discovering his talents as he progressed in each sport. Zola began dancing at the young age of two, but her commitment deepened four years ago when she began pre-professional ballet training.
Their training regimes can only be described as intense. Sophie trains twice a week with her team, in addition to early morning workouts at the University of Akron. Reno’s training varies: off-season involves lifting six days a week in unison with speed and agility strengthening, while during the regular season, it consists of team practices. Zola dedicates around 12 hours a week to taking dance lessons at the Hudson Conservatory of Ballet, where she hones in on perfecting her ballet technique. Zola also cross-trains in weightlifting and Pilates.
Despite their rigorous training schedules, academics remain a priority. Maintaining straight A’s is “the standard in their household,” and they balance sports with education; they are prime examples of successful student-athletes.

Even though they are so focused on their own paths, they serve as a support system for one another as they all understand the work ethic needed to strive as athletes. Regardless of her busy schedule, Zola comments, “I try to show up to games and support my siblings where I can. With them always cheering me on, I try to do the same for them.” It’s refreshing to see how these individuals pursue differing sports while still sharing a deeper level of respect for one another.
Looking ahead, these talented athletes have ambitious goals. Sophie dreams of competing in the Olympics. Reno aspires to continue his athletic pursuits at a collegiate level. Zola also hopes to become a collegiate dancer and potentially pursue a career in choreography, dancer health, or other correlating fields.
When asked for advice to young athletes, Sophie encourages young girls interested in rugby to “ignore what others may think and pursue their passion fearlessly.” Reno emphasizes “the importance of off-season lifting and pursuing sports that bring joy.” Zola comments, “I always advise showing up and trying hard, no matter what you feel. Some of the best days can happen when you lack motivation, but continue to push through,” and highlights the importance of mental well-being and nutrition.
The Ferri Family is not only building up amazing athletic careers for themselves, but also being active members of their community and passing down their expertise. Reno and Sophie are involved in youth sports camps, with Reno assisting at Youth Hudson Football camps and Sophie at Youth Hudson Rugby camps. Reno is also a devoted member of the Leadership Conference Planning Committee, while Zola is involved in the Student Government. Zola mentions they “feel like they fit into the network of Hudson and appreciate the amazing school and community.”
The Ferri siblings are exceptional athletes, dedicated students, and valued members of the Hudson community. Their commitment to their sports, academics, and each other is a testament to their character. They have bright futures ahead and serve as an inspiration to young athletes in Hudson and beyond.
