Among the multitude of different clubs at Hudson High School, a very popular and unique club sticks out, known as Fashion Club. And while it does cover the standard ins and outs of fashion, Fashion Club at HHS is so much more than that. The club highlights fashion trends and cultures while at the same time highlighting community service. Meetings and events are filled with an atmosphere where fashion coexists with fun and servitude.
These positive and passionate aspects of the club stem straight from its presidents, Paige Masi and Joey Herman. Masi and Herman have been presidents for the past two years, and have served in officer positions for three. These two seniors pilot the club alongside other senior officers consisting of the two co-vice presidents Maia Kurtscheidt Abdala and Emma White with social media managers Cat Turek and Fiona Dudley. While all of these officers have impeccable fashion taste, their leadership and care for inspiring others is what drives all of fashion clubs success.
While there is a strong senior class currently leading the club, the group has been active at HHS over a decade. In years past, Fashion Club was filled more with the aspect of actually making clothes from scratch or the art of fashion but in past years there have been less members who fall under that genre so the club hasn’t pushed in that direction. Instead, they dialed in on another long time feature of the club; giving back to the community through fashion. The club also often highlights fashionable student outfits at HHS and gives their kudos to all those with personalized style.
A typical meeting is filled with fun activities and oftentimes a service project. Mostly, fashion related activities take place that engage all members no matter their strength in the subject. Senior co-president Joey Herman shares the ins and outs of a club meeting. “Meetings are usually something DIY related and are meant for absolutely anyone to be able to do,” Herman says. Herman also adds some of the activities the club has done at recent meetings which include making bracelets to sell at the HHS World Culture Fair and making posters for the clubs annual winter clothing drive where the club gathers new/very gently worn clothing for a teen homeless shelter in Akron called “Safe Landing Youth Shelter”. Along with these the club has also had meetings like, ranking celebrity halloween costumes, an annual dog blanket making meeting which they donate them to local animal shelters, fall fashion trend predictions, mood board making, met gala brackets, upcycling t-shirts, etc. Herman declares, “We really love talking about pop culture and clearly just having fun for anyone to participate.”
The service acts of this club truly make this group stand out at HHS. The way the club is able to focus on an exciting topic while helping others makes Fashion Club such an inspiration. When asked about the club’s annual clothing drive in specific, Herman shares, “We love that as a fashion club we can give back to our community through clothing to help teens in our area feel like themselves.” This attitude demonstrates the clear reason as to why this club is able to thrive at HHS. Serving others not only contributes to an outstanding society but also drives the attractiveness of the club.

Another great aspect about this club is how easy it is for members to join. One of the main goals of Fashion Club is to get as many people involved in one way or another, so joining the organization is simple. To join, students can show up to a meeting and join the google classroom to get updates. Meeting times are shared in advance on morning announcements and on the club’s Instagram page, @hudfashionclub. The club is also not strict on meeting attendance, so students with even the busiest schedules can contribute to the club without attending meetings.
Because of the longevity of the club, a promising future is anticipated, but that remains the responsibility for the future presidents. Even with all of the Fashion Club officer positions being filled by seniors, the current leaders have no doubt freshmen, sophomores and juniors will step up in the upcoming years. Herman admits, “We have many interested current members who are very passionate about what we do so we are not worried whatsoever.” Herman also adds, “I love how flexible our club is and there are always a million different directions and ideas this club can foster so we are so excited to see what happens in the future, we know it will be amazing. If you are reading this and are interested in doing something special with this club, you have the power to be the change you want to see!” The plan plans to have officer elections for next year at their next meeting.
Whether you consider yourself an avid fashionista or never give your outfits a second thought, Fashion Club could be the perfect place for you. Fashion Club is a valuable creative outlet for all students and teaches them the importance of community service. These two factors make the club considered one of the most admirable at Hudson High School.
