The six years of private and hidden-under-the-wraps relationship between celebrities Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn came to a close publicly Saturday night, April 8, 2023. Pop star Taylor Swift and actor Joe Alwyn haven’t spoken out on this yet, which means it could be false, but Entertainment Tonight, CNN and People have all posted online articles about it. Throughout their relationship, the couple managed to stay out of drama and make everybody around them wonder and stay curious as to how their relationship worked. Besides listening to Swift’s most popular albums and songs dedicated to him through her talent and beautiful poetic gifts she lets us know how she truly feels about him, we have seen them spotted in public as having a normal and healthy relationship. In these articles, it states that the breakup was mutual and “ran its course.” People magazine claims to have an inside source that is close to the pair and has confirmed that the relationship ended.
This unexpected breakup is followed by one of Netflix’s most famous actresses, Millie Bobby Brown, best known for playing the leading role in the Netflix original series Stranger Things, posting on her Instagram story announcing she is engaged with a caption titled, “I’ve loved you three summers now honey, I want them all.” Quoting the iconic song Lover on the Lover album by Swift herself written to Alwyn. Social media users were saying the timing of the breakup and that her caption choice was very ironic.
Currently, Swift is on tour for her “Eras Tour” and multiple people on the internet have said Alwyn hasn’t shown up to any of the seven performances yet. People are suspicious of this since Alwyn in the past has shown up to everything to support his girlfriend. Some sources believe that the breakup was majorly due to personality differences. Swift and Alwyn’s personalities would oftentimes clash and could have disagreements on different topics or ideas. Another source says that Alwyn would struggle in the relationship with all the fame towards Swift and that their relationship ended because they “simply grew apart” CNN says.
Some of Taylor Swift’s most recent and popular songs are about Alwyn. The song Gorgeous on her Reputation album is about him. The song is basically about the first time she met him and how she thought he was so gorgeous and she didn’t care about anything else. She mentions this in her lyrics by saying things such as, “you’re so gorgeous I can’t say anything to your face” and people assumed before she confirmed it was about Alwyn because of the lyric “you should take it as a compliment that I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk” since he is British. Another song that is a giveaway but a good one is London Boy. In it, she says how she loves his laugh, dimples and accent. She sings “home is where the heart is but that’s not where mine lives, you know I love my london boy” and “I enjoy walking Camden Market in the afternoon he likes my American smile like a child when our eyes meet, darling, I fancy you.”
Recently, after dropping her most recent album Midnights, Swift explained that the first track named Lavender Haze is about her and Alwyns relationship and how it’s a common term used in the 50s for a relationship and that if you’re in the “lavender haze” you’re just so in love and will do anything to stay there and not have people bring you down off that cloud. The public would have never guessed there were problems or even questions of breaking up due to how much it seemed she and Alwyn loved each other.
In 2020, Swift dropped her first alternative album titled Folklore. Her most popular song on the album, Cardigan, is about Alwyn and how he took her in and loved her “you drew stars around my scars” and how she “felt like an old cardigan under someone’s bed” until she met him. The two’s relationship was so private and secretive during this time that fans thought they might have been secretly married and wouldn’t announce it to the public for a while. Now, since they are over, this theory has obviously shattered many Swifties’ hearts.
As Swift continues her “Eras Tour” single, Alwyn just landed a role in an upcoming film called “The Brutalist” and is focusing on work. While Swift is also focusing on her career and music she has a lot going on right now while fans anticipate the concert and her re-recordings to all drop.
